Boreal owls

Delia and I were on the hunt for boreal owls that had come down from Canada looking for food. This photographer saw this in his back yard in Two Harbors. From talking to a local man he said we were about one week late. They had been seen on the Alseth Road. We talked to a young man from Mpls and he said he found a dead one in a park in Two Harbors and he was bringing it back to Mpls. to be studied . It looked like this one, only smaller. I had heard that they were already weakened from the journey, so many were dying. Sad, as they are so pretty!! We enjoyed our adventure!!

Sunday another sneak to the lake!

24 hours sure makes a difference with this lake. When we were here 24 hours ago the ice was on the north shore but now it has floated out to the south shore! We had to come and take a peak after church!!
The lake shone like diamonds! It was hard seeing thru the camera because it was so so bright! But I was not complaining! No surfers today as the water was calm off of  Stoney Point Drive.
Delia taking close up pictures of the ice crevices.
The fishing shack on a sunny day. Not far down this road is a flat piece of land, the man we met on the road said his family had a fishing shack on that piece of property. These fisherman were from Norway.
Love the lighthouse at Canal Park, still iced in here but the weather was in the 30's and lots of people were checking the canal out!!
Our beloved Lift Bridge and lighthouse.
Our lighthouse on the farther pier and anchor. I always think of the Kanowitz family when I see this anchor because I always took family pictures of them surrounding this! Boy do I have spring fever!!

My Aunt Shirley

On Saturday, Feb. 2, Shirley Claire Reed joyfully entered her Savior’s presence. Shirley was born July 12, 1927, and resided in Itasca county most of her life. Shirley was preceded in death by Marion, her husband of 56 years, parents Clifford and Claire Miller, brothers Donald Miller and Darrell Miller, and daughter Judy Reed.

Shirley attended Bemidji College. She worked at many jobs: telephone operator, Kremer’s department store, Koochiching-Itasca Head Start and the family bait business. Shirley loved playing board games, following the Vikings, playing golf, almost all sports, reading, and talking with friends. Fiercely independent, a model of resiliency, naturally curious, deeply Christian, and a wonderful mother, Shirley will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

Shirley is survived by daughters Jacki (a.k.a. Shirley Ann) Kuhlmey of Tacoma, WA., Mardelle Tomasch (Dale) of Puyallup, WA., Rev. Timothy Reed (Jo Ann) of Pueblo, CO., Randy Reed (Bobbi) of Peoria, AZ., Gary Reed (Jackie) of Brush Prairie, WA., and Paul Reed of Deer River MN. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews

Best friends~Delia and Susan @ The Rustic Inn
Surfing in 33 degrees. We saw 11 surfers at once
This is Walfred Johnson's fishing shack, he would fish, come back to the shack and clean the fish and sell it from the shack to locals prior to going to the farmers to sell herring and trout, so saith the man that we met on the Stoney Point Road. He was a walking history book of the north shore as he was born, raised, and still lives here. He was 63 years old and thought Miss Delia and myself were much younger than him. He did look much older but he was so fun to chat with. He walks this road every day to total 5 miles. Delia would like to interview him, but we do not know his name. Walfred owned property across the road and had his home there where the log home is now.
 Back at Brighton Beach.

Winter 2013 on Lake Superior

Once again local photographers have shared their unbelievable gorgeous photos of our beautiful Lake Superior. The ones that are so astonishing now are the ice formations! I hope you enjoy them!!

Something to think about on this winter day.......

Someone shared this with me today, made me think, and pray that I would let God change my heart to be the women He wants me to become.
